WriteWell

WriteWell

Schofield & Sims

Years Reception - 6

Schofield and Sims WriteWell is a structured, evidence-informed handwriting programme that supports children from their earliest mark-making in Reception through to confident, joined handwriting by Year 6. Designed to reduce cognitive load and build handwriting automaticity, WriteWell provides a consistent, whole-school approach to developing handwriting fluency, speed and legibility.

Supporting the principles of the DfE’s 2025 Writing Framework, WriteWell reflects national expectations and best practice in teaching transcription, the essential foundation for fluent, effective writing.

The programme follows a clear, developmental model based on the National Handwriting Association’s S Factors for Success, with learning following a clearly sequenced progression that supports the gradual acquisition of handwriting skills throughout primary school.

Children begin when they are developmentally ready and progress at their own pace. ‘Ready to Go’ assessments and targeted intervention resources help teachers make confident decisions about when to move pupils on.

What do you get with the scheme?

  • A Teacher’s Handbook offering step-by-step guidance on modelling, posture, grip, joins and progression. It also includes assessment tools, intervention strategies, and practical advice on developing a school-wide handwriting policy.

  • Eleven pupil workbooks covering four developmental stages, packed with structured handwriting activities that also reinforce cross-curricular learning.

  • Free digital resources, including animations for each letter and join, warm-up patterns, and posture/grip guides.

What about staff training or ongoing support?

Phone support is available from Schofield & Sims’ in-house team, but the programme is designed to be fully teacher-led. The Handbook offers clear, accessible guidance to support confident, consistent teaching across all year groups, including adaptations for left-handed pupils and children with additional needs.

What's the cost and how are billing cycles structured?

Teacher’s Handbook £100.00; pupil books £4.00 each (£3.50 for 10 or more copies of each book).
